Halton Gill Bunk Barn

Halton Gill Bunk Barn is situated at the head of Littondale, the most quiet and beautiful part of the Yorkshire Dales, in the centre of the National Park. It lies at the foot of Pen-y-ghent, one of the famous Three Peaks, near the Pennine Way and the Dales Way, and the area is criss-crossed by a number of public footpaths.

The Cowan family farmed in Halton Gill for nearly 150 years, and converted the traditional stone barn to provide high quality, low cost group accommodation. Local craftsmen have retained the original charm and features of the building while providing very comfortable accommodation to the highest standards.

Besides walking there is climbing and pot-holing locally, fishing and pony trekking at Kilnsey, and a full range of outdoor activities in the area. We recommend Yorkshire Dales Guides for orienteering, team building and guided walks. The nearest pub, The Queen's Arms in Litton (tel-01756 770096), has good food and a warm welcome, as does The Falcon in Arncliffe (tel-01756 770205). The nearest shops are 10 miles away in Settle or Threshfield, and local supermarkets deliver to "The Bunkbarn" Halton Gill.

Bunk Barn Accommodation and Facilities

The Bunk Barn sleeps 40 people in 8 separate bedrooms.

At the entrance is a large, efficient drying room, where the playfield games and equipment are kept. The covered entrance porch leads to a large slate-flagged reception hall. In the hall are some comfy chairs and a football table. The Finnish Sauna is located just off the hall.

The 8 fully carpeted bedrooms, all with bunks, are on the ground floor, sleeping 3x8, 2x2, 3x4. One "4", the leader's room, is a totally self-contained unit, with its own kitchenette, bathroom and separate entrance. All the bunks have an under-blanket and pillow. Please bring your own sleeping bag or duvet and sheet, pillow case and personal towel.

The separate ladies and gents facilities are also on the ground floor, with 2 toilets, 2 showers and 4 washbasins in each.

Upstairs is a large common room with a Pool Table (free to use and with a Ping-Pong top) and ample seating. The larger kitchen/dining-room comfortably seats 40 and is very well equipped with 2 range cookers, 4 fridges, 4 sinks, 2 microwaves, 2 Dualit toasters and kettles, a fridge-freezer and all the equipment you could possibly want in order to enjoy your self-catering. We provide washing-up liquid, tea towels and bin liners.

The Bunkbarn is just outside the village so is safe, quiet and private, and is open all year round. It is warm, welcoming and spacious, with oil-fired central heating, parking for up to 20 cars and a well-maintained one acre play field.

Halton Gill Bunk Barn has extra attractions

The adjoining one-acre field, "Buttercroft" is mown regularly and is exclusively for your use. We provide a variety of outdoor games and sports equipment, and also have picnic tables and a large Barbecue area. You just need to bring your own charcoal.

There is a genuine 10 seat Finnish Sauna which everyone seems to enjoy using after a strenuous day on the hills - also free of charge!
